Norma J. Ennis Memorial
Norma J. Ennis embodied perseverance, determination, and a lifelong commitment to helping others. Born during the Great Depression to a farming family in a small southwest Missouri town, Norma dreamed from an early age of becoming a nurse. However, financial hardship and the responsibilities of raising a growing family meant her dream would take years of sacrifice and persistence to achieve.
While supporting her family, Norma worked a variety of jobs, including at a shoe factory and selling Stanley Home Products, always holding onto her goal of working in healthcare. When an opportunity became available to help fund her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) education, she eagerly pursued it. After completing the program, Norma worked as an LPN while continuing her education toward becoming a registered nurse.
Her journey was not easy. Norma attended evening classes when she could afford them, balancing full-time work, family responsibilities, and school over many years. Earning her nursing pin became one of the proudest and happiest moments of her life, representing the fulfillment of a dream she had worked tirelessly to achieve.
Norma’s determination left a lasting impression on her family and instilled in them a deep appreciation for education, hard work, and resilience. Her story continues to inspire others pursuing their own educational and professional goals.
