Jim and Debby Baugh
Jim and Debby Baugh believe real heroism lies not in giving, but in the perseverance of students who pursue education despite overwhelming challenges. Since retiring to Springfield in 2011, the couple has become active in a number of philanthropic efforts, including their long-standing support of the OTC Foundation.
The Baughs became involved with Ozarks Technical Community College after learning about its Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) program through a friend who served as an instructor. Jim, a retired public administrator, felt an immediate connection to the mission, recognizing that his own educational opportunities had been made possible by the strong support system he had growing up.
“My folks had the means to send me to college,” Jim said. “I ended up with a master’s degree, a good profession, and a leg up in the economy. Now Debby and I want to pay it forward to those who didn’t have the same opportunities.”
Together, Jim and Debby continue to invest in the lives of students, guided by the belief that education is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give.
Impact
Since 2015, Jim and Debby Baugh have made a lasting difference at OTC through two impactful areas of support.
First, their scholarship fund helps cover the cost of the HiSET exam for graduates of OTC’s Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) program. This critical support has helped hundreds of students earn their high school equivalency and begin a new chapter in their education and careers.
One such student, Tiffany Hasting, shared, “Growing up, I had the odds stacked against me—I was in and out of foster care and battled addiction. But OTC’s AEL program gave me the tools I needed for a new beginning, and the Baughs helped make that fresh start a reality.”
In addition, Jim and Debby have been steadfast supporters of the OTC Early Childhood Education Center Childcare Assistance Fund. Their generosity helps student parents afford tuition for their children to attend OTC’s high-quality early childhood program at the Springfield campus. This assistance allows parents to stay enrolled and focused on their academic goals, knowing their children are in a safe, nurturing environment.
“There are so many students trying to balance school and parenting,” said Debby. “If we can ease that burden just a little, and help them stay on their path, we’re honored to do it.”
Through their ongoing commitment to education, the Baughs continue to uplift those who are building brighter futures—for themselves, their children, and their community.
