Michael Pulley

Michael Pulley is a former Ozarks Tech English instructor whose dedication to teaching and passion for writing have left a lasting impact on students and the college. As one of the institution’s earliest faculty members, he taught for 26 years, beginning in the early 1990s and retiring in 2016. Throughout his career, he developed a deep appreciation for his students, especially nontraditional learners balancing education with work, family, and other life responsibilities.

In addition to his work in the classroom, Michael is an accomplished writer, having authored novels, short stories, and a memoir, and contributed regularly to a bi-monthly opinion column. It was through the success of his writing that he found a meaningful way to continue supporting students beyond his retirement.

Michael was particularly inspired by students who returned to college after facing setbacks, including those affected by workforce changes in the region. Their determination and commitment to improving their lives through education left a lasting impression and ultimately shaped his desire to give back.

Impact

Inspired by the perseverance of his students, Michael Pulley established the Michael Pulley Scholarship Fund to support those pursuing a bachelor’s degree in English after transferring from Ozarks Tech. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students as they continue their education, helping ease the transition to a four-year institution.

His gift reflects a deep belief in the power of education and the importance of supporting students who are committed to building meaningful futures. Through this scholarship, Michael continues to encourage students to pursue their passion for language and literature while working toward their academic and career goals.

Michael’s legacy as an educator lives on through the students he supported in the classroom and those who continue to benefit from his generosity today.
