Southwest Missouri Code Officials
Southwest Missouri Code Officials (SMCO) is the local chapter of the International Code Council and was chartered in 1992 to promote the adoption and use of building safety codes throughout southwest Missouri. The organization works to support safe construction practices, professional development, and collaboration among industry professionals involved in building design, construction, inspections, and code enforcement.
SMCO is a nonprofit organization made up of professionals from across southwest Missouri and the surrounding four-state region, including experts in code enforcement, construction, technical systems, fabrication, and building design. Through educational seminars, training opportunities, and professional resources, the organization helps members stay informed about evolving building standards, safety requirements, and code implementation practices.
The organization also partners with industry leaders and community organizations to promote careers in construction and code enforcement. SMCO regularly supports workforce development efforts by participating in programs such as Salute to Construction and by connecting students with career opportunities in the construction industry.

Southwest Missouri Code Officials supports Ozarks Tech students through the Southwest Missouri Code Officials Scholarship, which assists students pursuing careers in construction, building inspection, code enforcement, and related technical fields.
Through scholarship support, professional education initiatives, and industry advocacy, SMCO continues to invest in the next generation of skilled professionals who help ensure the safety and quality of buildings and infrastructure throughout the region.
The organization’s commitment to workforce development and continuing education helps strengthen both the construction industry and the communities it serves.
