The Bobby Allison Fund
The Bobby Allison Childcare Assistance Scholarship was established through The Bobby Allison Fund to carry forward the legacy of one of Southwest Missouri’s most generous and compassionate philanthropists. Bobby Allison dedicated much of his life to improving the lives of children, families, and young people throughout the Ozarks. Although he was a successful businessman, Bobby was known for his humility and private approach to philanthropy, often giving without seeking recognition. His generosity supported organizations, hospitals, universities, parks, and community agencies serving children, families, and individuals facing difficult circumstances.
Bobby’s commitment to children was deeply personal. Raised by his single mother, Betty, he understood the challenges and sacrifices that can shape a family’s life. Those who knew him said his upbringing helped inspire his desire to give other children the opportunity for a better future. His philanthropy touched disadvantaged children, single parents, individuals with disabilities, university students, and families throughout the Springfield community.
His generosity created lasting opportunities for young people across the region. He was a significant supporter of Missouri State University, contributing more than $5 million to the university and helping fund facilities for student recreation and athletics, as well as the university’s Child Development Center. He also supported Mercy Springfield, including a major gift that helped make a new neonatal intensive care unit possible, reflecting his deep concern for children and their families.
Bobby’s commitment extended throughout the community. He was a primary donor for numerous Springfield-Greene County Park Board projects, including the Miracle League Ball Field, where children and adults with disabilities could play baseball, as well as playgrounds and youth sports facilities. He also provided significant support to organizations including Harmony House, the Springfield Dream Center, Lost & Found Grief Center, and the Betty and Bobby Allison Ozarks Counseling Center.
Impact
Bobby Allison’s legacy is defined by a simple belief: children and families deserve opportunities to thrive. The Bobby Allison Childcare Assistance Scholarship carries that belief forward by helping Ozarks Tech students overcome one of the practical barriers that can stand between them and their education.
For students who are also parents, the cost of childcare can make pursuing a college education especially challenging. By providing assistance with childcare expenses, this scholarship helps students remain focused on their education while caring for their children and working toward a more secure future for their families.
The scholarship reflects the heart of Bobby Allison’s philanthropy. Throughout his life, he invested in opportunities that helped children learn, play, heal, and grow. From accessible recreation and youth sports to healthcare, education, and family support, his giving was motivated by a genuine desire to make life better for others. Community leaders remembered him as someone who cared deeply about children and families and who gave not for recognition, but because he wanted to see the positive impact of his generosity.
Today, The Bobby Allison Fund continues that legacy by supporting services that create better lives for children and youth in the Ozarks. The fund’s mission and ongoing community investments ensure that Bobby’s generosity continues to open doors for families and strengthen the communities he cared so deeply about.
